Atlanta was reading the soft wrinkles in Brough’s face, finding a story she’d lost years before in a smalltown upriver…
‘History is losing her memory,’ she said.
Set in the weeks before Hurricane Katrina makes landfall, Before the Flood opens with the arrival of Atlanta Georgia Maheala on her ex-husband’s front porch. Recently released from a mental health institution, Atlanta’s prophetic journey through the city of New Orleans explores the basic questions of life and love, truth and lore, fate and self-determination—all against the backdrop of impending disaster.
